Conical Reception Desk Greenwich Hotel, London

In conjunction with the London 2012 Olympics The Greenwich Hotel, in London, underwent an extensive redevelopment. 2TA Ltd was commissioned, by the contracted joinery company, to produce the setting out details for fixtures and fittings to the restaurant and reception. One of the items addressed as part of this package was a conical reception desk.

The desk included a laminated outer shell, sprayed to a solid metallic finish, and a veneered carcase, to the rear, accommodating computers and tills. While not initially evident from the designers 2D drawings, the conical nature of the desk dramatically reduced the available space towards the bottom of the desk. Being able to employ full 3D modeling greatly assisted the detailing of this item, highlighting issues which would not have otherwise become apparent without extensive projected sections.

CNC router paths were taken directly from the 3D model components, greatly reducing the time between drawing approval and manufacture.
